Have you noticed the energy around the full moon can be particularly potent?
Just like the ocean ebbs and flows (high and low tide) so does the energy within our bodies and mind.
This renders the full moon an ideal moment for contemplating the aspects we must cultivate in our lives and those we should release in order to embrace our most enriching existence.
Having a ritual around this time of the month can enrich your practice of self care in rhythm with the changing nature and planets around us.
HERE ARE OUR FAVOURITE WAYS TO HONOUR THE FULL MOON
1. Setting a Meditation Altar
An altar is an elevated space designated as a sacred area where you can engage in spiritual practices and find a deep sense of connection. This can be a beautiful reminder to remain dedicated to a regular practice.
Items placed on the altar typically hold meaning and intention to its purpose. You could add pictures of the people who have guided you for example; spiritual masters, ancestors and teachers. Deities, your favourite crystals, candles and incense will also add a personal touch towards the energy you want to create in this space.
Treat the space as sacred by keeping the area clean and clear of clutter.
2. Journal Reflections to Inspire
Having a spiritual journal is a great way to reflect and evolve through life.
You can use it to document how you feel before, during and after your meditation as well as reflect on how your practice may have helped you in a challenging situation.
Once a dedicated practice of yoga and meditation is established many things come to the surface. This very process can bring to the surface the answers you need to move forward, invite new energy in and let go of what no longer serves you.
Your journal is a way of getting it out of your mind and onto paper.
Here are some reflective questions to help you get started with your journaling.
How do I express my most authentic self?
What is my biggest dream, and what actions can I implement to reach it?
In what areas of my life do I need to set boundaries?
What does inner peace look and feel to me?
What is the biggest lesson I have learnt in the last year?
Lotus Mudra (Sanskrit - Padma Mudra) symbolizes the ability to rise above challenges just as a lotus flower would through murky waters, bringing more clarity and lightness to the heart and mind.
3. Lotus Mudra Practice
Bring your hands into Anjali Mudra in front of your heart. Keep the base of the hands together, along with the thumbs and little fingers and gently blossom the index, middle and ring fingers open like a lotus flower.
A recommendation is to sit with Lotus Mudra for 10 intentional breaths and extend the duration every time you meditate with this mudra.
Remember, these practices are meant to help you align with the full moon energy and access your intuitive and imaginative side.
Feel free to adapt them to your personal preferences. If you're looking for a nurturing Yin Yoga Practice head over to our Full Moon YIn Yoga practice.
Notice how you feel before and after and perhaps document it in your journal.
