5 Seasonal Tips and Practices - Yoga and Ayurveda for Autumn

As summer transitions into autumn, Ayurveda teaches that seasonal changes affect the body, mind, and spirit. Autumn increases Vata dosha, bringing qualities like dryness, coolness, and movement, which can lead to issues such as dry skin, digestive imbalance, restlessness, or poor sleep. To maintain balance, Ayurveda recommends aligning daily routines with nature’s rhythm, known as ṛtucharya (seasonal living).

Helpful practices include self-oil massage with sesame oil, applying oil or ghee to the navel, drinking CCF tea (cumin, coriander, fennel), eating warm and nourishing foods, and dressing warmly in seasonal colors.

Yoga and mindfulness practices such as morning meditation, Nadi Shodhana breathing, chanting OM, Prana Mudra, and Yoga Nidra can also help calm the nervous system and ground the body during this transitional season.

By embracing warmth, nourishment, routine, and inner reflection, we can move through autumn with greater balance, vitality, and harmony with nature.
